Family Fun Day

I volunteered at Family Fun Day at the Greater Denton Arts Council (GDAC) this weekend. It reminded me how much fun it is to teach, I mean just simply teach, the actual act without all the baggage. We were teaching, well facilitating, elementary age children (and their parents) which is not my usual student, so that in itself was fun. And then just helping out in a creative endeavor is fun. I couldn't help thinking how much easier the classroom would be if every student's parent was with them, but then again, that could open a whole new Pandora's Box. It was really interesting to see the different parenting styles, the ones who sat their kid down and read the paper while the child worked, the ones who made art along with their child, the ones who made art FOR their child and every shade of gray imaginable inbetween those three extremes.

Aunt Maxine once said that the greatest gift in life was to enjoy your chosen profession. I am glad you like to teach. Mom

Honored to be in the company of your mother. I have a long and blustery email to you in the works but just wanted to check in and say your inspiration lifts me up, shister.

So dang, now I have to evaluate what kind of mother I am. Can I be all of them? The OCD in me wants to make it for them. My conscience forces me to let them make it with some assistance from me. But the selfish fantasy surfaces as I WISH I could get away with reading the paper. This sounds like fun and I vote "no" to the parents coming to school. Lisa
